General Requirements


In order for an institution training teachers to receive JBTE accreditation of a department or programme, the institution must satisfy the following general requirements: 

(i) The institution must be a member of the JBTE of Teacher Education. 

(ii) The institution's admissions' criteria and practices must conform to the entry regulations established by the Joint Board of Teacher Education for (a) the course of study for which the candidate is seeking certification, and (b) the programme within that course of study. Accordingly, the institution must make yearly returns to the JBTE in accordance with the regulations of the Board. 

(iii) Instruction in the various subject areas taught in the institution must conform to the JBTE regulations appropriate to (a) the course of study for which the student is seeking certification, and (b) the programme within that course of study. The curriculum followed in these subjects and courses must be those approved by the JBTE. 

(iv) The institution must have established an Examination Board on which all subject departments are represented. 

(v) The institution should provide the organizational framework and support services, in particular an adequate library and laboratories that make it possible for appropriate teaching and learning to take place. 

(vi) There must be in place an established mechanism for ensuring common standards among all lectures in order to maintain comparability with JBTE standards.
